Melbourne takes mantle as most popular destination

Written by  il: 09/04/2013

Melbourne emerged as Australia's most popular destination for domestic travellers in 2013 and has taken the mantle from Sydney, which is battling perceptions it is too expensive, according to a new survey. The 2013 Hotel Price Index (HPI) put the Victorian capital on top last year, with Sydney dropping to second place, Gold Coast third and Cairns fourth.

Adelaide rose three places to fifth, ahead of Perth, Brisbane and Port Douglas.

Darwin and Canberra rounded out the top 10.

As a travel enthusiast, I was excited to read about Melbourne emerging as Australia's
most popular destination for domestic travelers in 2013. It's fascinating to see Sydney,
previously holding the top spot, drop to second place
due to perceptions of it being too expensive. This shift highlights the importance of affordability
in attracting tourists, a factor that Melbourne seems to
have successfully addressed. I'm also intrigued by the rise
of Adelaide, climbing three spots to fifth place, and
the consistency of Gold Coast and Cairns in third and
fourth places, respectively. It would be interesting to see the strategies these cities have implemented to
maintain their popularity. Overall, this survey provides valuable insights into the changing dynamics of
    domestic tourism in Australia.
